 The second release of Whaling City Sound’s Balaena Chamber Series of classical music is Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonatas for Viola da Gamba performed by Audrey & Paul Cienniwa Audrey and Paul began playing as a duo in 1998 after meeting in Brussels as students. Since then, they have performed throughout New England and regularly in France, earning praise from the newspaper Le Dauphine Libere as prestigious…magnificent…masterful. As specialists in historical performance, their repertoire includes masterworks of the baroque and pre-classical periods. Audrey studied the baroque cello with Hidemi Suzuki. She is currently teaching at the Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Providence College. On this recording, she plays the violoncello piccolo. Paul, who plays the harpsichord, is music director of Newport Baroque, Sine Nomine choral ensemble and First Church in Boston, where this was recorded. In 2003, he was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University. Enjoy this very special selection!
