Amidst the challenging times of the pandemic, Gerry Gibbs and his wife embarked on a journey across America, recording in various locations and racking up 15,000 miles. Joined by esteemed artists such as Chick Corea, Ron Carter, Christian McBride, Patrice Rushen, Larry Goldings, Buster Williams, Geoff Keezer and Kenny Barron, they set out to capture the essence of their musical vision. However, destiny had a different plan. As they found refuge in San Antonio, Texas, Gerry discovered a group of local musicians whose chemistry and talent were undeniable. With string and French horn parts added by the Texas Low Budget Orchestra and the addition of saxophonist/keyboardist Eric Hargett, saxophonist Jerry Espinoza, bassist James Suter, and guitarist Tommy Howard, the Thrasher People Family was complete. What started as an instrumental ensemble quickly evolved when vocalist Michelle Gaibay Carey joined the band. From timeless classics like “Song for My Father” to fresh interpretations of hits like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” each track reflects the exceptional talent and versatility of Gerry Gibbs Thrasher People.
